Clark police were able to revive a possible heroin overdose victim using nasal Narcan (naloxone) spray earlier this year, according to a department release. The police responded to a call from a residence in the early hours of the morning on a report of a possible overdose. The victim, a 26-year-old male resident, was lying on his back in an upstairs bedroom, barely breathing with a very faint pulse and turning blue about the face, according to police.
Police administered two doses of Narcan per protocol before the victim regained consciousness. The victim was subsequently transported to the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Rahway for continued treatment, police said. Police did not specify which drug caused the overdose but Narcan is primarily used to treat heroin overdoses. This is the second time the Clark Police Department was able to save a life using Narcan, police said. On July 4, Clark Police were the first in Union County to successful revive an overdose victim with the spray. The Narcan spray was distributed by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office to all county departments in June of this year as part of a statewide campaign to combat heroin deaths.
It is unclear at this time if the overdose victim was charged with any criminal offenses.
