Burlington County

Bordentown NJ Heroin Lawyers

Like many other counties throughout New Jersey, Burlington County has experienced a steady rise of heroin use and arrests. The rural and suburban areas of Burlington County have probably been hit the hardest by the heroin epidemic. The county also hosts many major highways and roadways including the New Jersey Turnpike which leads to increased heroin arrests from motor vehicle stops. No matter the circumstances, if you have been arrested for heroin or a related charge such as oxycontin or suboxone possession, it is a serious matter. The mere possession of heroin (no matter how small) is a third degree indictable crime which is punishable by up to 3  – 5 years in state prison. An experienced criminal attorney can be invaluable when navigating the court system and the criminal process. At the Law Offices of William A. Proetta, our attorneys are experienced in handling heroin and related crimes and can often times secure a downgrade, admittance in Pre-Trial Intervention or even a dismissal altogether by utilizing a combination of aggressive defense tactics and negotiation skills.

Burlington Superior Court Heroin Charges

The Burlington Superior Court is located at 50 Rancocas Road in Mount Holly, NJ 08060 and the Criminal Division is located on the 3rd floor. Every arrest for an indictable crime in Burlington County, no matter what town you were arrested, will be sent to the Superior Court. Therefore, any charge of Heroin Possession and Heroin Distribution will be handled in the Superior Court in Burlington County. Shortly after your arrest, an indictable offense will be sent up to the County Prosecutor’s Office to be screened and reviewed. At this point the prosecutor can decide whether to downgrade and remand the case to municipal court or to keep the case in Superior Court. All Superior Court criminal cases will be sent to the grand jury for indictment. However, depending on the circumstances, the case may be able to be listed for a pre-indictment conference in an attempt to resolve it early on. If the case cannot be resolved, it will be sent to a trial team after it is indicted. Once the case is indicted, as a general rule, it can normally be harder to negotiate as the prosecutor has already invested time and energy into the case. Having an attorney involved early on can often lead to a quicker and more favorable result by securing a resolution before the case is ever indicted.
