Howell has the second most heroin abuse cases in Monmouth County, New Jersey according to statistics provided by Division of Addiction Services in the New Jersey Department of Human Services. These reported cases are only the ones that police and emergency workers know about and does not represent the exact number which is most likely much higher. However, most of these reported cases will lead to an arrest and charges for Possession of Heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, or being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Moreover, this does not include the heroin related arrests that are the result of searches from motor vehicle stops and search warrants executed on suspected “drug houses” which often lead to arrests for Distribution of Heroin.

Heroin’s growing popularity has been directly linked to prescription drug addiction and Prescription Drugs crimes such as the illegal use of Oxycontin and Suboxone. Once the body becomes addicted to prescription opiates, the addiction can be hard to feed and heroin becomes more palatable because it can be injected, smoked, snorted or orally ingested, and typically only runs at $5 to $10 a bag, which is much cheaper than prescription drugs. The money needed to support the growing addiction also leads to theft crimes such as Burglary as a source of funding. No matter what the circumstances of your particular case are, an experienced criminal defense attorney can be invaluable or securing a successful resolution of the charges.

Keansburg police recently arrested two women for Heroin Distribution after complaining neighbors alerted police to suspected drug activity. The cops followed up and conducted a two week investigation, which most likely included video surveillance. It appears the police were able to secure a search warrant for the house based on the information collected through the investigation. Although most heroin arrests still result from motor vehicle stops and the subsequent searches of the car, search warrant arrests for heroin are increasing. Police are dedicating more time and resources to fighting heroin then ever before so you they are conducting more investigations and making more arrests. Cases involving search warrants and arrest warrants can be tough and often involve complicated legal issues which require litigation. If you or a loved one has been arrested for heroin possession or distribution, it is important that you speak with an experienced criminal attorney to learn your options are potential defenses. Contact our office today for a free consultation.

Among the charges for Possession of Heroin and Distribution of Heroin, the defendants were also charged with Intent to Distribute Heroin within 500 feet of a Park, which is a second degree crime. A second degree crime carries 5 – 10 years in state prison, with a presumption of incarceration, even for a first time offender. Both defendants were taken to Monmouth County Jail with on a $60,000 and $40,000 bail with no 10 percent option. All heroin cases are sent to the Monmouth County Superior where they will most likely be sent to a grand jury and once indicted, assigned to a trial team to be prosecuted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
